Her popularity is because she had starred in Whedon's next TV hit, Firefly. Summer Glau was very good at handling the complex role of River Tam. In the role of Tam, the character was required to participate in government research that required her to be prepared to become the perfect assassin. Tam had difficulty learning to regulate her emotions due to. Glau was able to display her combat abilities as well as her acting skills in Firefly. Her experience as an assassin allowed her the opportunity to use every aspect of her athletic ability. Summer Glau is a classically trained ballerina. A broken toe was the final straw for her as a dancer. Firefly was a one-off show however it was an enormous success. It was so passionate that Whedon returned to the show a couple of years later. Summer Glau kept on getting an excellent job. She was seen on TV programs like Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
