She has covered sports for some of the biggest outlets in the world. She spent nearly a decade working for The Washington Post covering football, basketball, multiple Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. In 2004, Nichols moved on to ESPN for nine years where she won two Emmy Awards and appeared on several of the network's top popular shows, such as SportsCenter as well as NFL Countdown. Also, she was a part of the network's Monday Night Football broadcasts as a sideline reporter. Her next assignment was CNN as well as Turner Sports. The first show she created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded featuring Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN and CNN International. The show had millions of viewers around the world. Nichols also worked for TNT on NBA broadcasts during playoffs and broadcasts for the All-Star game. Alongside reporting for TBS and TNT, she also reported on baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. This is only the second nomination for this award to a woman among more than 200 nominated candidates.
